The principal gladiators in the fight to occupy the governorship seat in Imo state of Nigeria, widely known as the "Heartland state", Mr. Martin Agbaso and the incumbent, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim have devised strategies to grab the plum position following  the recent ruling of the Supreme Court to send the matter back to the Court of Appeal for re-trial. The appeal court is the final arbiter on governorship election matters.

chidi opara reports' network members in Owerri report that Dr. Ohakim is relying on contacts he made as governor across Nigeria and abroad to see him through. Ohakim according to these reports have reached out to prominent Nigerians at home and abroad to help in reaching out to Judges of the Court of Appeal "to see reason for preserving the peace in Imo state".

Mr. Agbaso we learnt is relying mainly on the national leader of his party, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu "to send message to the Judges that Igbos will not accept anything less than justice in the matter".

Mr. Agbaso is also reported to have enlisted the help of a foreign based Igbo journalist through a female journalist of Imo state origin. This foreign based journalist is reportedly launching a publicity campaign against Dr. Ohakim at the moment.

Dr. Ohakim, chidi opara reports learnt is also said to be running subtle publicity campaign against Mr. Agbaso. This campaign is reportedly anchored by an editor of a newspaper owned by a Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) stalwart.
