News Report: Nigeria President In veiled Violation Of Electoral Laws

"Amaechi is a special person. Please run, run, we have endorsed you", with these words the Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, represented by his deputy, Mr. Namadi Sambo at the reception organized by the Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organization Worldwide in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on December 11th, 2010 in honour of governor Amaechi, presented the Rivers State governor as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Rivers state in the 2011 gubernatorial election. PDP is yet to conduct its primary elections as stipulated by the 2010 Electoral Laws. The President is the national leader of the party.

This endorsement, chidi opara reports learnt on good authority have put the governorship ambitions of other PDP gubernatorial aspirants in the state like; Celestine Omehia, Austin Opara, Abiye Sekibo and others in jeopardy. Contacts in the campaign organization of these aspirants informed of immnent re-strategizing.

Observers have however scored the President who is also reported to have endorsed the Abia state governor, Theodore Orji, Senate President, David Mark and Speaker of House of Representative, Dimeji Bankole low for what they said is a veiled contravention of the political parties internal democracy provision in the Electoral Laws. A PDP member in Rivers state and a supporter of one Dr. More Oja-Chinda, another PDP governorship aspirant in the state, told a chidi opara reports network member at a function in Port Harcourt yesterday that, "Mr. President is supposed to be a father to all and the chief defender of our laws, honestly, I don't know what is happening."
