President Goodluck Jonathan has condoled the family of late Rtd. Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, who served Nigeria as Chief of General Staff from 1986 to 1993.
A statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, described late Aikhomu as as someone who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria, as a Naval officer and as deputy to President Babangida.
“Admiral Aikhomu’s life was defined by the values of hard work and commitment; he was a conscientious and dutiful officer who was in all respects admirably equipped for his roles in the military and in the larger society”, the President said.
Late Aikhomu, the President said, even in retirement, continued to service Nigeria.
The President said further that his death came at a time when Nigeria needs him most, he prayed to God to grant his family the courage to bear the loss.
