U-Report: Imo State House Of Assembly Elects Officers

In the election of officers of the Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu emerged as the Speaker through consensus agreement while Hon. Donatus Odoemena became the Deputy Speaker. The post of Majority Leader went to Hon. Mrs. Adaku Chinenye Ihuoma while Hon. Iheanacho
Ihim clinched the post of Deputy Majority Leader. Other officers of the House as elected were the Minority Leader Hon. Barr. Ngozi Ekeji, Deputy Minority Leader went to Hon. Robertson Ekwebelem, the Chief Whip is Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo while his Deputy is Hon. Sir. Emeka Nwafor as the post of the Minority Whip went to Barr. Obinna Okwara.
In his Acceptance Speech, the Speaker. Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu identified three areas yearning for immediate attention such as service to the people, the Executive arm and the Legislature. Hear
him, “It is with humility and profound sense of honour that I accept the position of the Speaker of Imo House of Assembly. I will devote my time, energy and everything within my power to make Imo House of Assembly the best Legislature in the country. I will work tirelessly towards the upliftment of Imo House of Assembly. I promise to give you, all, with a true sense of quality leadership, equal representation and effective disposition to work”.
To the people of the State, he pledged that the House will enact people of the State, he pledged that the House will enact people oriented Laws and motions through effective Legislative responsibility which will put smiles on the faces of the poorest of the poor in the bid to bring to the grassroots the impact of the “Rescue Mission” of the government of His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha. On the Executive, Mr. Speaker noted that both arms owe the populace the duty of working with one spirit through synergistic understanding to ensure the provision of dividends of democracy, adding that the Law making body will not constitute a clog on the wheels of the Rescue mandate of the executive.
Concerning the Legislature, Rt. Hon. Ben Uwajumogu told the newly inaugurated Law makers that he will not mortgage or trade in the freedom of the mace but to create an enabling environment where they will feel free to ventilate their minds through a robust Legislative dialogue, debate and discussions which will in the end promote, integrate, incorporate, inculcate and aggregate the interest of their
respective Constituencies.
