Jega
Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega will head an election observers’ team to Liberia’s elections on October 11th, 2011. The observers’ team is a regional body. Jega’s INEC organized the 2011 general elections which were pronounced relatively free and fair by local and International observers. The outcome of some of the elections are however being contested in the courts.
Attahiru Jega’s observers’ team empanelled by the Economic Community of  West African States (ECOWAS)  would comprise of 150 observers to be deployed to various parts of Liberia during the elections.
The ECOWAS Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria, said yesterday that the Liberian elections "are critical for consolidating the gains made in Liberia and other ECOWAS member states over the last decade in the entrenchment of peace, stability and good governance".
Liberia’s President, Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is seeking another term.
