News Report: Yoruba Militia Stage Demonstration In Lagos Against Boko Haram


chidi opara reports network members in Lagos report that the Oodua Peoples Congress(OPC), today staged a demonstration in the city against the Boko Haram Islamic Jihadists.
OPC members numbering more that one hundred were seen marching with guns and machetes. Some rode in mini buses, while firing into the air and shouting warnings to Boko Haram. There was no police presence while the demonstration lasted.
The demonstration terminated at the Teslim Balogun stadium.
OPC Was formed as a counter force to the Late General Sani Abacha regime’s secret assassination squad which attacked and killed some pro-democracy activists in Lagos and in other cities in the South-west, forcing others into exile.
On the return to democracy, it evolved into a socio-cultural group but retained some aspects of its militancy.
Oodua Peoples Congress derived its name from the legendary progenitor of the Yoruba race, Oduduwa. Yoruba is a majority ethnic nationality in Nigeria.
The group had severally warned Boko Haram to stay clear of the South-west.
