News Report: Nigeria President Orders Review Of Bakassi Ruling




President Goodluck Jonathan, chidi opara reports can now report, have ordered review of the International Court of Justice ruling of 2002 that handed the Bakassi peninsula to Cameroon.

The Nigerian upper legislative chamber known as the Senate had recently called on the President to appeal the ruling. The time allowed for appeal would expire in days.

Following the ruling, the peninsula was finally handed over to Cameroon in 2008.

A Presidency news release informed that a review committee has been empaneled after a meeting between Senate President David Mark and Vice-president Namadi Sambo.

The ruling was based on an 1881 agreement between Britain and chiefs of  the Calabar province.
