Report By: Campaign For Democracy South-East Publicity Arm
The Campaign for Democracy (CD), South-East Region has criticized the South-East legislators in the National Assembly for their failure to impress on the Federal Government to fix its roads within the zone.
``We
are calling for their recall; most of them had preformed abysmally and
the zone is no longer comfortable with their non-performing
representation,’’ the group said in a statement.
The statement, which was issued in Onitsha, Anambra, was signed by Dede Uzor A. Uzor, Chairman, Campaign for Democracy (CD), South-East Region.
``The
South-east region is the worst zone affected by bad roads and gully
erosion in all most trunk A roads.
``The gully erosion had sub-merged buildings, industries and threaten public installations.
``The bad roads have affected business and industrial activities within the zone.
``Many
lives had been lost; while goods worth billions of naira destroyed in
the course of failure or somersault of heavy-duty trucks conveying them.
``The
Federal roads are Onitsha-Awka-Enugu road; Ihiala-Orlu-Mbano road;
Enugu-Port Harcourt and Owerri-Aba-Port Harcourt,’’ it said.
The statement also urged the legislature to pursue the case for the building of the 2nd Niger Bridge; adding: ``It is not enough for the approval of the feasibility study to be given’’.
``Even
as the feasibility study case is approved; there had been no
engineering company on site to show that the study is going on against
the backdrop that President Goodluck Jonathan had promised to deliver
the Bridge before 2015 general elections,’’ it said.
The statement said that CD was giving the lawmakers 30 days to start action on the roads and the bridge.
``Without which a mass protest would be organized against them within the five states in the region,’’ it said.
