Poem: Nuptials With Four-Legged Mammals

By Chidi Anthony Opara

Bursting from indoors
Where bones savour bones
And flesh savour flesh.
Unlike the covers
Of our national honey pots,
The gate of queerdom is open now.
It is right,
It is human right
The homilies harangue.

Another epoch looms
Like elections in our land.
We would shiver
And speak in tongues,
We would succumb again
To the blackmail of a new epoch.

Would consummate nuptials with sheep.
Would consummate nuptials with dogs,
With house cats.
Would consummate nuptials
With four-legged mammals.
It is right,
It is human right

The homilies would harangue.
