Late Baba Omojola |
Afenifere celebrates the
life and time of Comrade Baba Omojola who passed on to higher glory on Saturday
in Akure a day after he presented a memorandum at the maiden sitting of the
Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference.
Comrade Omojola’s life
was one devoted to the noblest ideals of justice, equality and human progress.
He was a first class
economist who would have lived in opulence but for his choice of committing
class suicide in defense of the oppressed and downtrodden.
Comrade Omojola paid a
heavy price for the choice he made in the many brushes with the repressive
apparatuses of state.
He was detained several
times especially under the Babangida junta during one of which the "Kuje
5" became famous as he was detained along four other activists.
The fighter in him
ensured that death could not torture him on a sick bed as he died suddenly
in active service.
That was how his
ideological soul mate Comrade Ola Oni also exited in 1999 hours after he was
very active at a meeting of Odua Development Council at the Airport Hotel.
The curtain is drawn on
the life of great fighter who lived his life for all.
Beyond giving him a
people's burial which he richly deserves, the greatest tribute we can pay to
his memory is to ensure we make the peoples of Nigeria to own the proposed
National Conference on which Baba made his last outing.
Sun re o, Baba Omojola!
Yinka
Odumakin.
National
Publicity Secretary.
Afenifere.
