U-Report: “Mandela Is Special Gift To Humanity”–ActionAid Nigeria

ActionAid Nigeria has described former South African president, Nelson Mandela as a special gift to humanity, who exemplified all that Africa had expected in leadership.

The antipoverty agency’s Country Director, Dr. Hussaini Abdu, stated in a press statement that “we celebrate this great African who not only signified all that was best about Africa but also raised hope for a better and more refined leadership on the continent”

Abdu said that Mandela better than any other world leader had shown better understanding of the appropriate response to poverty and human dignity. “In President Mandela’s statement that 'Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity, it is an act of justice. Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural’, he had shown that he understood the nature and cause of poverty”, Abdu stated.

The ActionAid country director called on the Nigeria leadership and the rest of African leaders to “use the passing on of Mr. Mandela to rethink their leadership and response to poverty”
