The group in mobile telephone text messages yesterday said that Rivers State is dedicated to Jesus Christ and enjoined the peoples of the state to join it to say "no to Ogbeni Nyesom Wike and Felix Obuah". It concluded by saying that "Ogboni must fail in Jesus name".
The full text of the first message ran thus: "Dear Rivers people, Rivers State is dedicated to Jesus Christ. Pan Rivers distances itself from the antics of occultists desperate to invade Rivers State and spread Ogboni among our people. Join us to say no to Ogbeni Nyesom Wike and Felix Obuah. Ogboni must fail in Jesus name! Jesus reigns in Rivers State".
The second message informed that "tomorrow as Ogbeni Nyesom Wike appears on Rhythm 93.7FM's viewpoint, Rivers People will speak with one voice to reject a man whose history is full of betrayals. Ensure you call----- during the programme by 8am tomorrow to speak for Jesus and reject Ogboni people. The time to stand for Christ is now".
Wike was a close friend and aide of the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Wike and Obuah are allegedly the arrowheads of Rivers State politicians based in Abuja, working with the Presidency to remove the Rivers State governor.
From the time Nyesom Wike was Amaechi's Chief Of Staff, there has been allegation of him being a member of a cult named "Ogboni".
Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia describes Ogboni as "a fraternal institution indigenous to the Yoruba
language-speaking polities of Nigeria, Republic of Bénin and Togo. The society
performs a range of political and religious functions, including exercising a
profound influence on regents and serving as high
courts of jurisprudence in capital
offenses".
A contact at the Rivers State Government House, however, whispered to us that the text messages emanated from the office of the governor's Media Chief.
Since 2007 when Governor Amaechi assumed office, the office of his Media Chief have been using text messages to relay the governor's seasonal greetings and other messages.
