U-Report: NHRC To Hold Public Hearing On Zaria Quds Day Killings

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) plans to hold a special public hearing on the gruesome killing of peaceful Quds protesters in which soldiers cruelly opened fire killing 34 members of the Islamic
Movement in Nigeria including 3 sons of Shaikh Zakzaky, and wounding over a hundred others.

In a statement signed by the Spokesman of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Ibrahim Usman and made available to the newsmen said the commission told the leaders of the Islamic Movement that the public
hearing is scheduled for November, this year.

It would be recalled that chairman of the NHRC, Dr. Chidi Odinkalu had during a recent visit to Shaikh Zakzaky promised to do all that is legally possible to justice is done and the culprits brought to book.

Human rights groups across the world, both national and international have expressed readiness to ensure justice is done over the extrajudicial killings of innocent people by Nigerian soldiers on July
25, 2014.

The Islamic Human rights Commission (IHRC) had visited Nigeria where it conducted preliminary findings on “The Zaria Massacre and the Role of the Military”.

The Commission had also last month invited Sheikh Zakzaky and another witness, Dr. Musa Shu’aibu, a Physician, for panel presentation but were denied visa.

Sheikh Zakzaky and Dr. Shu’aibu however addressed the panel via Skype, and the IHRC presented the proceedings to the UN Human Rights group in Geneva same day.
