On
Monday May 18th, 2015, the Nigerian-American Leadership Council
hosted a successful gathering of experts at the Rayburn Building of the US
Congress, at an event aptly tagged: “Nigeria 2015, Beyond the Ballot.”
The Event was Co-sponsored by Office of US Congressman Chris Smith, Chairman
Africa-Sub-Committee, and the Office of US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee.
The
event which was broken into categories of: Democracy and Governance; National
Security; Technology, Business & Economic Development; and Youth &
Community Development; featured remarks by US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee,
Greg Simpkins of the Africa Sub-Committee at the US Congress, Admiral Donald
Loren, former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Dr. Edward Oparaoji,
Senior Policy Advisor at NALC; Kayode Tani-Olu Chief Consultant, Government
Relations at NALC, and Sam Okey Mbonu, Executive Director and CEO of
NALC. The Event also featured Nigeria’s Ambassador to the US, H/E Ambassador
Ade Adefuye, and Nigeria’s Chief Defense Attache to the US, Air Commodore
Mohammed Yakubu
The
Council will in the coming days release details of the working document
resulting from the Event, which would be circulated to policy-makers in the US
and Nigeria, to better prepare Nigeria for the road beyond 2015.
