Reports reaching the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) have it that some unscrupulous people, who were behind the massacre of hundreds of unarmed citizens and their secret burial in a mass grave, are planning to secretly and unilaterally exhume the corpses in an effort to lower the figure of those buried therein in the event of a subsequent full blown international investigation of their crime.

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
R. Buckminster Fuller said those words decades ago, but they still ring true in present times, especially when it comes to the progression and innovation in technology. Here at Check Point we do a lot of thinking about future trends and potential threats, as well as innovating and building solutions to combat these cyber-security challenges.

The change agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari has received positive reviews so far from the United States of America . Many American businesses appear ready to take a chance again on Nigeria . But some are beginning to develop cold feet so soon because many tales on Nigeria are still very emblematic of the inept shadow of the immediate past regime.

Five months have passed since the infamous and controversial inconclusive Kogi governorship election, yet the cracks that emerged on the Kogi political sphere are far from being mended. While the Election Tribunal is busy hearing the cases of dissatisfied contestants in the said election and judgement awaited, there have been many thought-provoking situations and commentaries that have created many obvious holes in Kogi politics.

Thanks to the endless monologue of the ‘Change government’, its ‘disunited governing party’ [remember Fela’s Beast Of No Nation – who and who unite for united nations?], and their ‘Common sense revolution’; we now know too much about our past and particularly our recent past; We have managed to acquire far too little understanding of our current challenges and present hardships; and seem to have absolutely no clarity about our future, even of the nearest future!

AIDS-Free World has received leaked information that 41 additional cases of sexual violence by peacekeepers have been documented by MINUSCA, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (CAR), following interviews with victims in Dekoa, a remote town in the country’s Kemo prefecture. In an April 7th code cable, MINUSCA informed UN headquarters that an “integrated team” sent to Dekoa from March 25th to April 4th interviewed 59 women and girls. While some were on a list of 98 victims who reported sexual abuse to UNICEF last month, the team documented 41 new cases never previously reported.

Section 20 of the CBN Act of 2007 clearly states that the Naira “shall be legal tender in Nigeria at their face value for the payment of any amount.” Yet this law has meant nothing to many Nigerian businesses which commonly reject the Naira in preference to the US Dollar. But these businesses are not alone. The Nigerian government is also guilty of the same charge. Perhaps this practice is not new by any stretch and far predates the current Buhari government, but an eye-witness account below exposes a specious dynamic.

The Janjaweed are a militia that operates in Darfur, Western Sudan, and Eastern Chad. Using the United Nations definition, the Janjaweed comprised Sudanese Arab tribes, the core of whom are from the Abbala (camel herder) background with significant recruitment from the Baggara (cattle herder) people(source: Wikipedia 2016). Since 2003, the Janjaweed has been a major player or party in the bloody conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan; fighting the Sudanese Liberation Movement/Army and the Justice and Equality Movement. The violent conflict killed 200,000-400,000 civilians between 2003 and 2007 with hundreds of thousands of others maimed and millions of others displaced. In 2008, the United States declared the killings in Dafur as genocide and attempts to wipe out African tribes of Darfur in Sudan. The Sudanese Janjaweed is commanded by Sheik Musa Hilal; named in 2004 by the US State Department as one of the leading Janjaweed commanders and genocide criminals in Darfur Sudan.

Retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari and his Gestapo Organization called Department of State Services (DSS), henceforth referred to as “Gestapo-DSS“, have once again failed in their attempts to portray the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a violent and terrorist group. In their latest but poorly written statement titled “DSS Official Statement on Barnawi and IPOB“, the Gestapo-DSS stated that: “the Service has uncovered the heinous role played by members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), in the abduction/kidnap of five Hausa-Fulani residents, namely Mohammed GAINAKO, Ibrahim MOHAMMED, Idris YAKUBU, and Isa Mohammed RAGO at Isuikwuato LGA in Abia State.” They further noted that: “The abducted men were later discovered at the Umuanyi forest, Abia State, where they were suspected to have been killed by their abductors and buried in shallow graves, amidst fifty (50) other shallow graves of unidentified persons. Arrest and investigation conducted so far, revealed that elements within the IPOB, carried out this dastardly action.”

In a country where the value of human life is not worth more than that of a fly at a butcher’s shop; where misery is a constant companion and the candour of our politicians and rulers is the same candour that pimps extend to prostitutes, it is not out of place to celebrate every minute, every hour, every month, and every year. It is certainly not for nothing that “Happy new month” has become a refrain at the beginning of every month for many Nigerians on WhatsApp, Twitter, and Facebook. But I digress!

It is not far-fetched to describe the police force as the face of a government. Aso Rock Villa
Abuja, FCT Nigeria
Dear Mr. President,
I have just returned as leader of a small Nigerian-American delegation, from a 2 week tour of Nigeria, on behalf of the Nigerian-American Leadership Council (NAL Council web: www.nalcouncil.org). This trip afforded the Nigerian-American community to get a no holds-barred assessment of the situation on the ground in Nigeria; and the substantial challenges your administration faces, as you gain traction in your first term as civilian president of Nigeria.
Mr. President, it will be stating the obvious to say that the state of the nation is dire. Nevertheless, all hope is not lost, especially, if you pay attention in the right areas of governance. This letter includes a highly abridged summary of our report, as the policy details will be too unwieldy to be published as an open letter.

The Nigeria’s Federal Legislative polls were held on 28th of March 2015. The macabre dance of the Commission with respect to recent turbulent and inconclusive legislative rerun polls in Rivers State also worries and saddens us. The source of powers of the Commission to conceal and possibly doctor election results weeks after they were conducted, before releasing them in bits as it is the case in Rivers State remains surprising and confusing, because we are not aware of any such provisions in the INEC Establishment Act of 2004, the Electoral Act of 2010 and the 1999 Constitution.
