Emekekwue, President-Elect, Association of Professional Nigerians in Egypt

The
Association of Professional Nigerians in Egypt (APNEG) on Saturday elected Obi
Emekekwue, the Head of Communications of Cairo-based African Export-Import Bank
(Afreximbank), as its President for the next two years.
Mr. Emekekwue, whose election took place during the Association’s second
quarterly meeting held in the New Cairo section of Cairo, will take over from
the President of Afreximbank, Dr. Benedict Oramah, who has completed two terms
as the President of APNEG.
Also elected along with Mr. Emekekwue were Patrick Aduaye-Odiete as Vice
President; Ekene Uzor as Secretary-General; Oluranti Doherty as Assistant
Secretary-General; and Okechukwu Ihejirika as Treasurer. Others are Ayo Mubarak
as Financial Secretary; Ada Abel-Osuji as Public Relations Officer; Humphrey
Nwugo as Assistant Public Relations Officer; and Joy Albright as Legal Adviser.
The objectives of the APNEG include working for the advancement of
Nigeria, promoting and projecting a positive image of Nigeria and her cultural
values, promoting mutual understanding among its members and serving as a
channel of communication with the government and people of Nigeria.
APNEG’s key activities for 2016 include the hosting of a Nigeria-Egypt
Business Forum in Egypt in October in order to strengthen trade and business
relationships between organisations in the two countries. It provide a platform
for discussions on trade promotion, policies and programmes aimed at
facilitating two-way trade between Egypt and Nigeria.
The new APNEG Executive Committee
will be sworn during a formal ceremony later in the year.
Mr. Emekekwue, a former United Nations staff member and also a former
United Nations Bureau Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria, is also the founder
and pioneer President of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNSRC)
Nigerian Association. He initiated that association in 2012 as the first formal
organisation uniting Nigerians working within the United Nations System at the
Headquarters in New York.
