The attention of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has been drawn to a news report by Premium Times, Nigeria, an online news medium, on the short-listing of Mrs. Chris-Garuba Rita Ifeyinwa Enewa for appointment as a Justice of the Court of Appeal. The Premium Times news report stated amongst other things that “the shortlisted Nominee, Mrs. Rita Chris-Garuba, formerly Rita Kuku, in 2000, was indicted for a series of professional misconduct related issues, including putting clients’ funds to her own use, and a £250,000.00 mortgage fraud in the United Kingdom where she worked as a solicitor; and concluded that despite the indictments, Mrs. Chris-Garuba, and the 11 other nominees, await confirmation by the President of the Court of Appeal for their new positions as Justices of the Court of Appeal”.

Once again, stakeholders appear to have brought to the fore, critical issues and concerns over genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and the Nigerian Biosafety Management Act 2015. On February 13, 2017, there was a news report in Daily Trust that the National Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) cautioned the Nigerian government with regard to permitting GMO foods into Nigeria. NIREC in a report by its committee to investigate claims for and against GM foods said it was not advisable to go on with GMOs in Nigeria for now because the country was not ripe for it. The report entitled, “Final report on GMOs and Recommendation,” said the agency in charge of biotechnology industry in the country does not have facilities and expertise to regulate and control GM practice in the country.

The season of politics and politicking is nigh, no doubt! This is particularly so of the State of Osun where the tenure of the incumbent Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, is gradually winding down. It is therefore natural that those who want to succeed the ebullient governor should be putting their acts and political wiles together. This is also a season that witnesses countless endorsements, anointment and preferences of one politician or candidate over the other. This is the season of rumour, believable and unbelievable. This is the season of harvest of falsehoods, blatant lies and utter untruth. And, most of the time, the incumbent is always at the receiving end of this political tricks and subtle blackmails from within and without his political enclave.

The day was frigid. It was all windy, rainy and a bit dark. Hell was breaking loose. The Street was deserted. No taxi. I was really excited to see Johnson’s Toyota car come down the street so I could jump in and get the hell home from this meeting. However, Johnson (not his real name)didn't stop. He did slowed and almost came to a stop but instead, he kept going much to my dismay. I was not sure why he even bothered pretending like he was going to stop. All that he did was get my hopes up and eventually piss me off. With no taxi and Keke around, I did the trekking, soaking wet, musing on Tuface Idibia’s you are my African Queen.

Nigerian government continues to send fear into the hearts of Nigerians. The government continue to wage vicious crackdown on free speech. The space for independent activism, critical journalism, and opposition political activity in Nigeria is extinguished .So many persons have been arrested in recent times to silence their voices using politically motivated criminal charges. Last week officers of the Nigerian Police stormed the home of a Journalist and blogger, Kemi Olunloyo and whisked her away to the Oyo state Criminal Investigation Department office in Ibadan from where she was driven to Port Harcourt, charged to court for cybercrime and remanded in prison for her post about Pastor David Ibiyeomie on social media.

Ronald Reagan once said, "Government is like a baby, an alimentary canalwith a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other end". And I add a big head that thinks it knows it all and then treat us all like the anus that brings nothing but, forgetting that a closed anus is recipe for disaster.

By failing to plan, one plans to fail. Until we get it right, we will not get the right output and result. Again, we cannot be doing the same thing over and again and expect to get a different result. To make good progress in life, there is always the need and willingness to change positively and advance technologically – and this comes with planning which census, a comprehensive census, can provide.

News Release: Rejection Of Army’s Kangaroo Rights Abuses Investigation Panel And Request For Proper Criminal Investigation And Punitive Measures Against Buratai & Ors
The gross rights abuses in the past 21 months of the ailing Buhari’s Government of Nigeria can never be investigated by the same perpetrators of the heinous crimes (i.e. Nigerian Army and its COAS: Tukur Yusuf Buratai, etc). Any so called special investigation panel set up by the Nigerian Army is manifestly a kangaroo and totally rejected. As a matter of fact, the Nigerian Army should be barred from meddling into investigations associated with same; except its right to be heard. There shall be proper criminal investigation and punitive measures against Buratai and Company; followed by an unbiased and balanced Special Judicial Commission of Enquiry set up by the Government of Nigeria, for the purpose of victims’ remedies or compensatory justice and serious administrative reprimands-Emeka Umeagbalasi-Criminologist & Graduate of Security Studies; and Board Chairman of Intersociety.

Nigeria’s Government chains of negative reaction to the recent Report of Amnesty International are internationally culpable, sadistic, murderous, remorseless, baseless and lawless. The referenced chains of negative reaction from the present Government of Nigeria headed by ailing President Muhammadu Buhari including threats, name calling, campaigns of calumny and false denials; are also grossly inadmissible and unscientific, going by the modern principles of social science research and findings.
