News Release: The Gani Fawehinmi Award

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) hereby formally announce to, and invite, the general public to nominate deserving person or persons (Judges, Legal Practitioners, Scholars, Researchers, Journalists, Human Rights Workers and/or Registered Associations) for the resuscitated Gani Fawehinmi Signature Prize for the promotion of Human Rights and Social Justice in Nigeria.



The Prize:
The prize is to, henceforth, be awarded yearly to a person (s) or institution(s) in Nigeria that has attained distinction through consistent boldness, courage, independence, innovation and risk taking in the defence of the rule of law, access to justice, human rights promotion, advocacy or enforcement, the rights of the voiceless and the demand for accountable government.

Modality For Nomination:
1. Every nomination shall be made in 10 copies, accompanied by 10 copies of nominee’s curriculum vitae duly signed and dated.

2. Every nomination shall be submitted under confidential cover/boldly marked at the right hand corner of the envelope “GANI FAWEHINMI PRIZE”, and addressed to The Secretary, NBA Human Rights Institute, NBA House, Plot 1101 Muhammadu Buhari Way, Cadastral Zone AOO, Central Business District, Abuja. ATTENTION: ESOHE UWUIGBE

Nominations shall close by 4pm on Friday November 24, 2017.

Winner shall be announced on Friday December 1, 2017.

Prize/Award shall be presented to the winner by the NBA President; Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, SAN, FCIArb., OON on Sunday 10th December, 2017 being the UN Human Rights Day.
